In celebration of Star Wars day on May the 4th, I made the questionable decision to start a binge watch of the Star Wars movies in chronological order. Beginning with the prequels at around 8am, I made it through the prequels, the two spin-offs, and the original Star Wars before having to call it around midnight. While I initially thought that there wouldn't be much I could learn from these movies that isn't already known, I came away with a surprising feeling. These movies, even though they'd been made decades apart, built upon each other incredibly well. Watching the movies in the order they had originally come out, some of the later films start to feel bloated with references and call-backs. In chronological order however, the movies feel like they are building a world. We follow characters through, understand motivations and relationships, and really feel involved and invested in the world of the films. It was an awesome experience, and I wonder what the full experience of finishing every single movie would have felt like. Looks like I'll have to prep some caffeine and free time sometime in the future.
