In no particular order:
Robert Rodriguez
He has a very fun style which comes across particularly well in some of his stranger works. I would love to see his unique take on something that I wrote. I especially enjoyed works such as El Mariachi, Spy Kids, and From Dusk till Dawn. (I was impressed by how he was able to adapt the movie so well into the long form tv show)
Denis Villeneuve
He is amazing at taking low concept ideas and making them into manageable plots. His movies often have a depth to them that I really respect, nothing is just surface level. In this regard working with him would mean that he approved of my work and that I was successfully able to write at his level. For example Prisoners, Sicario, and Arrival.
James Mangold
In every movie that he directs no matter what else is going on in the plot the movie still feels like it is about the people, the personal stories are never lost in the action or the world. Similar to Villeneuve I would love to work with Mangold because if he signed on to a script I wrote it would mean that he believed that my characters were strong enough, and that I had successfully written the human element into my script. Cop land, not many people have seen this but it is a fantastic movie where under the direction of Mangold Sylvester Stallone does some of his best character acting, Logan, made wolverine more than just a hero, and turned him into a person that people could really sympathize with, and Ford V Ferrari, although this movie was always intended to be about the people who told a story than the story itself, it still showcased his skill with bringing characters to life.
